KPA Unicon to deliver 45 MW superheated steam boiler plant to Pomacle in France | Kpa Unicon

Dalkia Est and KPA Unicon have signed a contract for delivery of Unicon Renefluid 45 MW bubbling fluidized bed boiler plant to Pomacle in France, using biomass as fuel with 49 MW power. KPA Unicon boiler plant is part of Cogecab power plant, which generates energy for Européenne de Biomasse HPCI black pellet i.e. biochar production processes. Biochar can be used to replace fossil coal in coal-fired power plants.

The boiler plant will use biofuels, including chips and bark, recycled wood and cuttings from vines. The boiler plant will generate superheated steam for electricity production as well as hot water and steam for black pellet production process and other nearby industrial processes. The plant will be put into operation in 2020 and will be handed over for commercial use in June 2020.

The turnkey delivery includes the boiler plant and flue gas cleaning unit. Unicon Renefluid bubbling fluidized bed boiler is capable to burn fuels of wide spectrum of humidity and calorific value. The boiler has very high availability and efficiency. In addition, black pellet process produces waste steam that is burned in the boiler furnace, thereby improving the efficiency of flue gas condensation and thus the overall efficiency of the power plant.

The delivery includes also KPA Unicon`s PlantSys digital platform that enables remote operation and monitoring of the energy production plant. Intelligent predictive maintenance for long life span of the plant is achieved by gathering real-time information from devices.

“Dalkia have a good experience with KPA Unicon (Renewa), who has supplied to Lens CHP plant in the north of France, a boiler with the same technology. That boiler is reliable and efficient. Moreover, the performances and the time delivery were in line with the contract”, says Project Manager Habib Diop, Dalkia Est.

“The project is the result of long-term development and creates opportunities to increase share of future green energy production by replacing fossil fuels. This is KPA Unicon’s second boiler plant delivery for Dalkia and it continues and consolidates our very successful cooperation”, says Timo Aspelin, Key Account Manager of KPA Unicon.
