Fortum replaces part of coal-based heat production with a bio boiler plant to be built in Kivenlahti, Espoo

KPA Unicon will design and supply a fluidized bed boiler plant to Fortum in Kivenlahti in Espoo, Finland. This Unicon Renefluid bio boiler plant will replace a part of the existing coal-based heat production and produce district heating for the residents of Espoo.

The plant’s fuel effect is 49 MW and it can produce up to 58 MW of district heat.  The plant’s efficiency will be nearly 120 % thanks to the flue gas condenser and heat pump. As fuel, the plant will use bio-based fuels. Construction of the plant starts in Kivenlahti in November, and the plant will be handed over to Fortum in 2020.

”We are very excited about this opportunity to take Espoo towards carbon neutral district heating production. It is important to us to ensure the cleanliness and high efficiency of energy production”, says Timo Aspelin, Sales Manager, KPA Unicon.
