KPA Unicon supports Danone production facility in New Zealand aiming to achieve carbon neutrality
“With this project, we will enter into a completely new geographic market. The project will be a great reference that verifies our performance. This way we can grow in New Zealand and elsewhere in Oceania,” says Key Account Manager Arttu Laitinen from KPA Unicon.
The delivery of the boiler plant includes all process equipment, buildings and installation.
The new steam generating plant, with a capacity of 15 megawatts, will produce 21 TPH (tonnes per hour) of saturated steam for the milk powder process. The plant uses locally produced sustainable wood fuel. The core of the plant is a Unicon Renefluid fluidized bed boiler designed to utilize energy sources of varying quality.
According to Pentti Savolainen, Project Manager from KPA Unicon, the contract was based on good experiences with KPA Unicon´s modern, high-efficiency fluidized bed technology and project deliveries in Central Europe.
“In addition, emission control and a flexible response to our customer’s load changes were counted as our strengths,” Savolainen states.
The Nutricia spray-drying plant, located in Balclutha, processes raw milk sourced from local farms into powder that is used as the basis of infant milk formula. Steam production plays an important role in the process: the conversion of milk into a dry powder is done by heat. The new biomass steam generating plant will reduce the spray drying plant’s emissions by about 20,000 tonnes per year.
In addition to the plant delivery, KPA Unicon and Danone have entered into a separate service agreement whereby KPA Unicon will provide annual maintenance services. The new plant also has the capability to be connected to KPA Unicon’s service center in Haapavesi, Finland. From the service center, KPA Unicon can remotely monitor the plant and anticipate the need for maintenance.
Adven orders a carbon dioxide-reducing KPA Unicon's bio boiler plant to Naantali, Finland.
Adven, the leading provider of energy and water solutions in the Nordic and Baltic countries and KPA Unicon have signed a contract for the supply of a 30 MW boiler plant to the Naantali harbor area in Western Finland.
